Vincent Atkins is Trade Policy and Technical Advisor to the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Less Developed Countries (LDCs) at Office of Trade Negotiations, CARICOM Secretariat, in Barbados. He has been involved in the field negotiations of international trade agreements since 2001, having participated in the negotiations on the Free Trade Area of the Americas, Special Sessions of the WTO Committee on Agriculture; negotiations on the CARIFORUM –European Union Economic Partnership Agreement and more recently on the negotiations of the CARIFORUM – United Kingdom Economic Partnership Agreement.
Mr Atkins’ current responsibilities include coordination of market access in goods negotiations and conduct of technical and analytical studies on trade issues of particular interest to CARICOM LDCs. He also lectures on Market- Access- Trade in Goods for the Masters in International Trade Policy at the Sir Shridath Ramphal Centre for Trade, Law, Policy and Services, UWI.
Mr Atkins holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of the West Indies, an MSc in Agricultural Economics from the University of Florida, Gainesville, and a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of London. He also holds a diploma for graduates in International Relations from the London School of Economics and Political Studies and a post-graduate diploma in Legal Practice, (LPC) from Staffordshire University, UK.
