Export Barbados' School

Stella Hackett, Manager-Design at the Barbados Investment & Development Corporation, is a passionate advocate for the advancement of Barbados' creative capital and the value of good design. Since joining the BIDC as a Design Adviser in 2001, she has provided scores of clients with consultations and solutions from corporate identity to product designs. She has also created and delivered stimulating workshops, at internal, national, and regional seminars, covering topics such as: packaging and labelling; intellectual property and design; design matters relating to export readiness; booth design and visual merchandising; and product development opportunities using indigenous natural fibres. In addition to years of experience as both a visual artist and designer, Stella holds an advantageous combination of qualifications: a Certificate in International Trade; an MA in Arts Administration, for which she wrote the thesis Made in Barbados: Exploring the Relationship Between Tourism and Indigenous Craft Design and Development; a Certificate in Adult Education; and a BFA in Textiles Design from Rhode Island School of Design.
